behind THE best beach break in the world
This villa located in Hossegor, between lake and sea, behind the dune of a mythical wave, faces the setting sun.
The house and its outbuildings frame the terrace and the swimming pool, disregarding the unpleasant view from the street.
The L-shaped villa is mainly one-storey. In fact, only the partial floor stands out from the vegetation on the street side, offering a successful integration. The highest volume to the north provides protection from the coldest winds. The western winds are reduced by the dune and the vegetation. From the house, another L is formed by a covered terrace and the pool house. Thus, the terrace and the pool are like a generous patio.
Wooden construction, insulation and cladding - a greener choice.
The exterior cladding responds to the tones of the grove of cork oaks, and the gunmetal joinery outlines the openings. Like a coat, the house is over-insulated with rigid wood wool, which offers very good comfort in summer thanks to the phase shift, as well as reduced heating needs. The openings and their positioning allow good natural ventilation of the house in summer.
Inside, the choice of a unity of form, colour and materials offers bright and soothing spaces.
The L-shaped living area is open to embrace the traditional carpentry work while being divided into sub-spaces by the fireplace and sliding workshop doors. This arrangement provides a global perspective of the volume while offering a reassuring scale to each space. The continuity in the choice of materials both in the designed layout and in the choice of furniture provides a sense of calm.
